Our commitment to sustainable, responsibly sourced seafood

Joining together with Fine Dining Restaurant Group sister restaurant, Q Roadhouse & Brewing Co., we are proud to share we have joined the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch program.

This program helps consumers and businesses choose seafood that is sourced in a responsible, sustainable manner with the goal of protecting sea life now and for future generations. The Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch program uses a variety of factors to indicate which seafood items are "Best Choices," "Good Alternatives" or ones you should "Avoid." As a restaurant partner, we have committed to never serve items from the "Avoid" list, while also educating our staff members on these practices and helping raise awareness for responsible, sustainable fishing practices.

Executive Chef Eric Greenwood, who led the effort to join the program shared the reason behind his desire to become a partner. "Growing up on the East Coast, I loved seafood from a very young age. I have memories of my family visiting my grandparents in Maryland. We would arrive on Friday afternoon and throw out some crab pots that evening with anticipation of our 'farewell' dinner on Sunday night. When Sunday afternoon arrived, we would pull in the pots and have 4-5 dozen crabs fresh from the water. They were huge. As the years went by, the crabs started to get smaller and smaller and the price at local crab houses seemed to continually rise. I asked my parents why this was and they told me the demand of crabs had gotten so high that the fisherman were over fishing the crab population to keep up with the demand," he shared.

Chef Greenwood continued, "This is where my passion for sustainable and environmental seafood really started. Now that I am an Executive Chef, I feel as thought I'm in a position to make a difference and to lead by example. If I am able to only serve seafood caught or farmed in a responsible way, the cooks in my kitchen and the customers in my dining room will hopefully become more wise to the serious situation that is facing us. The Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch program is designed to educate industry professionals and consumers alike who are interested in helping bring attention the of over fishing of our waters. It was a no brainer to team up with them. They will help me educate my staff and diners and in return I will help spread the word on what they do."
